The Classic Wines Auction is the hottest wine event in town! In fact, it’s evolved into one of the top ten charity wine auctions in the United States. Not surprising, since we live in one of the most enthusiastic and generous food and wine communities around.

This signature event began in 1982 as a fundraiser to benefit Metropolitan Family Service. In 2004, a separate nonprofit was formed to grow and expand the auction, which now supports MFS and four other nonprofits serving individuals and families in greater Portland & SW Washington. Over the past 30 years, millions of dollars have been donated by generous, community-minded people. Real causes. Exceptional food and wine. Good times!

The Spring Recognition Event is our bi-annual gathering to celebrate and give thanks for our volunteers, friends, and dedicated supporters of MFS. We also honor exceptional volunteer dedication to the community by presenting the Thomas Stoel Award.

In May 2002, the Metropolitan Family Service Board of Directors established an award to honor Thomas B. Stoel and his volunteer commitment to our community. Thomas B. Stoel is a nationally recognized corporate and tax lawyer, and retired from the firm that bears his name, Stoel Rives. As one of Portland's leading citizens, Mr. Stoel helped establish many local charitable foundations and has played a significant role in making a major impact on philanthropy in our region.
