SF2020 SUN Fest

MFS collaborated with other Successful Families 2020 Promise Neighborhood partners–including Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization, Latino Network, Native American Youth and Family Center, and Self Enhancement Inc/Sei Academy –along with the David Douglas High School SUN program, to put together the first “SF 2020 SUN Fest” at David Douglas High School! (Read more after the jump!)

The event was organized as a safe and culturally-inclusive space for all members of the David Douglas community to come together and share food, performances, music, activities, and resources with one another.

SF2020

Each organization awarded a few outstanding students and families at the event for excellence in leadership, service, academics, participation, and “vision”–MFS was able to honor students from the Vietnamese Student Union (facilitated by Annie Dang, pictured), Hunger Relief food pantry volunteers, and the SF 2020 Youth Intern Program (including Jaaron Clay, pictured, who filmed the event and received the “vision” award), as well as families from the Ready, Set, Go! Play & Learn program at Earl Boyles Elementary. The event brought together about 300 students and their families, as well as countless partners and volunteers–including our very own Mill Park SUN Young Entrepreneurs student, who helped serve up delicious homemade smoothies to guests alongside our Financial Capabilities AmeriCorps member, Hannah Low. The evening was a great example of what can be accomplished when our organizations come together to celebrate our community as one!
