MFS Youth Interns Sail the Willamette

“Seas” the day! ⛵ Thanks to the Willamette Sailing Club for hosting the MFS Youth Internship Program for a field trip this last Friday! For many students, it was their first time on the water and cruising up and down the Willamette River. After a lesson in sailing, students were also given a chance to talk to Matthew Berger, a professional sailor with the Oregon Youth Sailing Foundation about potential job opportunities on and around the water. Not to mention, a major highlight of the trip was checking out a decades-old bald eagle’s nest in the Ross Island Lagoon! 🦅 Our Youth Internship Program is part of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette‘s SF2020 collaborative, and operates under the MFS Economic Empowerment program, with help from our awesome MFS AmeriCorps members! Special thanks to Self-Enhancement Inc. for their support in making this field trip happen for our students.

MFS Youth Interns Make Podcasts at KBOO

Three of our MFS Youth Internship students just spent the last 8 weeks working at KBOO Community Radio. Labreia, Aysiah and Justin completed their internship by each creating a podcast of their own making. Take a listen to the amazing work of our MFS KBOO Crew here 🔊

Thanks to Erin & Celeste at KBOO for graciously agreeing to host our students from David Douglas High School & Floyd Light Middle School! And a big thank you to the support of our SF2020 partners for making this program possible!

Check out more photos of their experience here!
