The Classic Wines Auction presented Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) with a check for $738,333 on April 29 at a check presentation ceremony downtown. The money was raised through various food and wine events throughout the year, culminating in the gala auction that was held at the Oregon Convention Center on March 1.
The auction raised almost $3.5 million for five benefiting charities in Portland and Southwest Washington. A record number of 960 people attended this year’s event.
“I would like to thank the auction and its board for the immense generosity and continued support of our organization and mission,” said Judy Strand, CEO of Metropolitan Family Service. “With this amazing gift, we are able to keep our commitment to our clients – to help them move beyond the limitations of poverty, inequity and social isolation. When this occurs, we see such gratitude, confidence and hopefulness in the faces of people of all ages who have opportunities that they never imagined would be possible.”
In addition to Metropolitan Family Service, the Classic Wines Auction will present four other charities with checks in the coming weeks, including New Avenues for Youth, Friends of the Children – Portland, YWCA Clark County and Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.
Since its inception in 1984, the auction and affiliated events have raised more than $33 million for children and families in the community. For more information about the Classic Wines Auction, call (503) 972-0194 or visit www.classicwinesauction.com
