Volunteer Opportunities for Groups


If you would you like us to help you find an MFS volunteer position in the Greater Portland, Oregon region that matches your skills, interests, and available time you can register online.


Car Mechanic. Volunteer as a Ways to Work Car Mechanic. Ways to Work helps low-income working parents purchase or repair a car. If you are a certified mechanic you can help parents by 1. Inspecting cars prior to purchase 2. Providing diagnosis/consultations for car repairs and/or 3. Providing car care classes to our loan recipients (approximately once per month). Total volunteer time is flexible, but averages about 5 – 10 hours per month. Car Shopper. Ways to Work, a program assisting working parents purchase a car, is looking for someone who is knowledgeable about buying used cars and wants to share that information with car shoppers. Our clients are looking for cars in the $2,000 to $4,000 range, and would greatly appreciate any advice you have to share. Time commitment is flexible, average five hours a month. Volunteer Opportunities at Events
Classic Wines Auction. Volunteer for this annual fundraising festive wine and food event each spring. Day of event volunteers do a variety of tasks including greeting visitors, providing coat checks, offering event floor support, and much more. National Family Week.
Volunteer for National Family Week celebrated by MFS in October and November of each year. Participate in our family portraits event by shopping for lunch items or staffing the event. Help organize family food baskets by purchasing baskets and basket items, or assembling baskets. Contact Darcie Esch at darciee@metfamily.org or 503.232.0007, ext. 105.

Holiday Cheer. Each year Project Linkage Holiday Cheer volunteers help bring the winter holiday spirit into the homes of isolated older adults in NE Portland. There are many opportunities within this seasonal volunteer project. Volunteers can help: keep track of donations and follow-up with donors; interview clients regarding delivery; help maintain the database of donors and clients; help on wrapping day; and assist with the deliveries and visits. Volunteer Opportunities for Groups
Yard Work.
Project Linkage group yard work volunteers work together on a one day yard project and may be involved in mowing lawns, raking leaves, trimming bushes, weeding, tree pruning, debris hauling, and other related activities.
