Drivers,
provide a valuable service to older adults and people with disabilities who do not have transportation to and from grocery shopping, important medical and personal appointments. Daytime drivers are urgently needed; however, the time commitment is flexible and variable – we work with your schedule. Drivers may use their own vehicle, or recieve training to operate our minivans or 14 passenger busses. You can view a job description, complete an application and background check authorization, or contact Heather Pruess at deborahs@metfamily.org or 503.232.0007, ext. 222.

For all additional Project Linkage volunteer opportunities below, you can complete an application or contact Heather Pruess at deborahs@metfamily.org or 503.232.0007, ext. 222.

Community Visitor: In-Home. Project Linkage Community In-Home Visitors make a difference in the life of someone who is homebound and lacks family support. Volunteers visit with clients in NE Portland on an on-going basis and can sometimes assist with special requests or errands. Because the relationship that forms is an important form of support for clients, the time commitment is typically one hour per week, and it is requested that volunteers commit to a year of service.

Community Visitor: By-Phone. Project Linkage Community Visitor By-Phone volunteers help older adults or people with disabilities who live alone and are isolated, feel safer and more secure by maintaining daily contact with the client. Volunteers typically make calls every day of the week, lasting 5-10 minutes a call.  Because the relationship that forms is an important form of support for clients, it is requested that volunteers commit to a year of service.

Home Repair. Project Linkage volunteers help to keep an older adults’ living environment safe and sanitary. Home maintenance volunteers may be involved in weatherization, replacing light bulbs, fixing steps and railings, or gutter cleaning. The time commitment is flexible and variable; most volunteers contribute five to ten hours a month, though more may be needed if volunteers are willing and able!

Shopper or Escort. Project Linkage shoppers and escorts make it possible for an older adult to remain independent in their own home and receive adequate nutrition. Volunteers shop for or with clients: shoppers can transport and assist clients, or shop for the client using a list given to them; escorts accompany a Project Linkage bus trip, and assist clients with their shopping. Time commitment is typically once a week for two to four hours.
