Families and schools have changed. As a result, children often lack
the positive influence of older adults and do not get the one-on-one
attention they need. Older adults increasingly live on their own, or
in communities of other seniors.
Age related cultural segregation, technology, changing economics and
the erosion of the multigenerational family unit have created
challenges for both adults and children. To help address these
issues, Metropolitan Family Service connects two important
populations. We provide public school children with mentoring,
tutoring and social interaction, and we offer older adults volunteer
opportunities to use their valuable skills and remain connected to
the community.
We provide intergenerational programs to build connections and
respect among generations, to help students achieve, to help schools
and youth-serving organizations become more successful, and to
strengthen ties between institutions and surrounding neighborhoods.
These programs enhance the well-being of volunteers and our
communities in which they serve.
MFS offers two programs to link generations.
