Metropolitan Family Service welcomed three innovative leaders from OHSU and explored why the Portland community can look to OHSU as a unique, intellectual epicenter for innovative practices and research, and how educating the best and the brightest health care providers produces benefits to the local community in terms of access to quality health care.

Guests considered the following questions and articles:

1. What factors will likely have the largest impact on the health of our community? Are we as a society willing to deal with the social determinants of health?

2. How do we train a sufficient health care workforce to meet growing demand? How do we make the most of the workforce we currently have? Is society willing to invest in educating more physicians, nurses, research scientists and other providers?

3. How can a medical school contribute to the health of the community?
