Most of us enjoy hosting an occasional gathering for friends and relatives, but how often are they attended by top local researchers, noted university professors and experts with real-world, in-the-trenches experience? Imagine the conversation these guests inspire!
Organized by Metropolitan Family Service, the agog discussion series engages people in a lively exchange of ideas focused on social issues that affect everyone. Thinking personally, collectively, and outside the box is highly encouraged.

Hosts make these gatherings possible, and our conversation leaders - local topic experts - make agog discussions unique.
To whet their appetite for discussion, conversation leaders provide guests with interesting readings and thought-provoking questions prior to the event. Seated among guests, they help lead interactive and stimulating discussions.
People leave inspired to learn more and get involved in their communities. Following each agog discussion, we post key ideas on this website and share them widely.

Last year, more than 200 people participated in agog discussions. The 2011 agog discussion series addresses Changing Demographics, Changing Communities. Between January and August, 15 privately hosted agog discussions are scheduled. Please contact us if you’re interested in hosting an agog discussion.
Each agog discussion directly relates to areas in which Metropolitan Family Service is making a positive impact. The 2009 series focused on improving education in Oregon and the 2010 series explored ways we can build healthy communities.
Metropolitan Family Service programs help people facing economic and cultural barriers such as health-related issues, poverty, inadequate education and isolation. Last year our programs helped more than 33,000 children, families and older adults.
