At Metropolitan Family Service, we value diversity and are committed to providing community based programs that are accessible and inclusive.
MFS provides services to 33,000 Portland area residents each year in an evolving community. We value the rich mix of ideas, traditions and skills that a diverse community offers. Metropolitan Family Service has invested in cultural diversity awareness training for our staff and partner agencies. Our staff and volunteer corps increasingly reflect the communities in which we work. By providing culturally appropriate services we are better able to connect with and support every individual who accesses our services or participates in our classes and programs.

MFS has instituted a Diversity Action Team (DAT) to engage staff, enhance services to diverse populations and develop a series of diversity trainings.Supported by a three year grant from the Paul Allen Foundation, the team has been successful in increasing staff awareness of diversity issues in the community, providing translated materials for our programs, and encouraging interactions with partners to raise awareness about cultural barriers.
